The Boone and Crockett Club is proud to support Tom Schultz’s appointment to be the next
Chief of the U.S. Forest Service. The Club has worked diligently to support our partners at
the Forest Service since the agency was founded by members of our Club in 1905.

Chief Schultz joins a long line of fellow Boone and Crockett Club Members who have served
in this position, including Max Peterson, Jack Ward Thomas, Tom Tidwell, Dale Bosworth,
and the very first Chief of the Forest Service, Gifford Pinchot.

We are confident that Chief Schultz will become an integral member of the Forest Service
family, and we very much look forward to working with him in his new role.

Chief Schultz brings over 27 years of leadership experience, managing complex natural
resource challenges across private, state, and federal landscapes. His innovative approach,
exemplified by his leadership in establishing and deploying Good Neighbor Authority in
Idaho and Montana, highlights his ability to craft solutions that build consensus and deliver
impactful results. This groundbreaking program has become a model for collaborative
management of public lands. Further, it demonstrates his skill in developing and
implementing improved programs for the greater good, as well as his commitment to
bringing change and greater efficiencies to the federal government.

Chief Schultz is an avid outdoorsman, sportsman and conservationist. He is also a strong
supporter of public lands and champion of public access. During his tenure working for the
States of Montana and Idaho he enhanced public access to state lands through novel
approaches with MOUs between State Lands and Fish & Game agencies.
