MISSOULA, Mont. – The Boone and Crockett Club welcomes yesterday’s overwhelming vote of 92-7 by the U.S. Senate to confirm Tom Vilsack as the new Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Vilsack served in this capacity during the eight years of the Obama Administration and proved to be an outstanding ally for private lands conservation. In addition, under his previous oversight of the U.S. Forest Service, Vilsack strongly supported management efforts to help improve forest health on federal public lands and supported private forestland management. In response to the confirmation vote, Boone and Crockett Club President Jim Arnold stated:

“The Boone and Crockett Club is the oldest conservation organization in the country and has long valued the collaborative efforts necessary to ensure the conservation and restoration of our nation’s private lands and national forests. Secretary Vilsack has a proven record of working with the Club and many other conservation organizations to ensure forest health through active management and to implement Farm Bill conservation programs to support the efforts of farmers, ranchers, and private forest landowners. We look forward to working with Secretary Vilsack to ensure that private land conservation efforts through the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency, as well as public land conservation on our national forests, continue to support our working landscapes across this great nation. This cooperative approach to conservation will be essential to meet the goals outlined by the Biden Administration.”
