The Latest News in Conservation
SITKA Gear is the latest to add its support for the Boone and Crockett Club's 30th Big Game Awards, scheduled for August 1-3, 2019, in Springfield, Missouri.
Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's are hosting the triennial event recognizing successful conservation and the commitments Fair Chase sportsmen have made to this longest running movement in American history. The highlight is a public exhibit of nearly 140 recently taken, Top-Five B&C trophies from across North America, including records book specimens taken by young sportsmen age 16 and under. The exhibit is within the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium in Springfield and will be open through August 3.
SITKA Gear helped with getting these trophies re-measured and verified before they went on display.
"The tide seems to be turning," said Boone and Crockett Club President Timothy C. Brady. "So many more companies that offer products for sportsmen are stepping up and supporting conservation efforts today, and not just us, but that of other conservation organizations as well."
The theme of this year's event is, North American Big Game, More and Healthier Than Ever, under the watchful eye of sportsmen. Within the Club's three-year recording period (2016-2018) there was one new World's Record and an astounding 43 new state and provincial records set.
"Being able to understand wildlife health successes and potential concerns, especially when and where they start, is integral to big game management and in helping get sportsmen into the outdoors," said SITKA Gear Customer Service Manager Corey Piersol. "Boone and Crockett has been keeping these benchmarks since the beginning. This is why SITKA is proud to sponsor the Boone and Crockett Club's Judges Panel at their 30th Big Game Awards. These record book North American big game animals are proof that the system of hunting-based conservation is working and continues to work, which aligns with SITKA's values. We couldn't be more pleased with this partnership and working with the Club's Official Measurers at such an amazing, nationally recognized event."
Boone and Crockett Club began keeping trophy records in 1906 as a way of detailing species once headed for extinction. Today, the existence of mature, male animals are signs of species population health and habitat quality. Biologists compare and contrast B&C records data to improve local management strategies as well as state and federal wildlife policies.
SITKA Gear joins Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's, the Wild Sheep Foundation, Federal Premium Ammunition, Dallas Safari Club, Buck Knives, the Mule Deer Foundation, NRA, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Robert M. Lee Foundation, YETI, Remington, and Leupold & Stevens as 30th Big Game Awards sponsors.
